Richard’s love for sailing began as a child sailing dinghies on the Beaulieu River. This passion developed throughout his time in the Army on the Joint Services yachts. During which he managed to take part in many adventurous sail training expeditions along the south coast and around the western isles, as well as numerous weekends racing in the Solent and across the Channel. Richard retired from the Army in 2017 and joined Admiral Marine in 2018 as the Claims Manager, a role he is well suited to, given his technical background and sailing experience.

For over 30 years, Admiral Marine has been the go-to specialist for sailors who demand more than just off-the-shelf coverage. We craft tailored insurance solutions for high-value yachts, blue water cruisers, and Caribbean adventurers—because we know no two voyages are the same.

Blue water cruising comes with unique challenges: long-distance passages, hurricane seasons, remote anchorages and we get it. Our team doesn’t just sell policies; we live and breathe the world of offshore sailing. That means expert advice, personalised service, and flexible cover that adapts to your journey, whether you’re crossing the Atlantic or setting off on an extended stay in the Caribbean.

When you insure with us, you’re not just getting a policy, you’re gaining a trusted partner. Our dedicated marine insurance experts work closely with you to ensure you have the right protection, clear guidance, and direct access to real people who understand your needs.

Wherever your next adventure takes you, we’re here to help you sail with total confidence.

Tailored Yacht Experience

Excellent All Round
Thank you for the excellent service you give us regarding our boat insurance. It is unusual to find a company that answers the phone personally, rather than a recording!
Great Experience
We feel Admiral did a much better job of making requirements, restrictions, and estimated coverage costs very clear and easy to understand.
Great Service, Good Value Marine Insurance
Admiral have been very helpful and it is much nicer dealing with a ‘real’ person, which is why I chose them!

Frequently Asked Questions

On occasion. For instance, for participants of a long distance rally such as World ARC, we prefer a 1st January renewal date allowing for boats to be in St Lucia at the start of the policy and in South Africa when the policy is due for renewal.

We suggest that if you’re uncertain which areas you need to cover for, opt for a more limited range with an option for extending. This way, you’ll know how much extra premium is required so you can budget accordingly.

We’re happy to accommodate changes to cruising area or any other aspect of your policy at any time during the year. Adjustments may result in an additional premium, but we never charge administrative fees for mid-term changes.

Our standard policy allows you to take part in any race or regatta, but it does not cover for the rig unless damage is caused by collision, stranding, sinking or fire. The hull is covered, but with double excess during racing.

Because we’re committed to offering the best personal service and tailored terms, we don’t believe in automatic renewals. Instead, we’ll offer you a renewal quote about a month before your policy is due to expire, and ask you whether there have been any changes to your requirements.
