The YDSA are a professional association established in 1912 which represents independent, professional yacht surveyors and yacht designers in the UK and overseas.
Admiral Yacht Insurance are members of the association and often engage the support of YDSA Surveyors when handling our yacht insurance claims.
This year the YDSA Annual Conference was held on HMS Belfast, and Robert Holbrook, our Managing Director, together with Bob Samuels, our Claims Manager, attended this key marine industry event and were able to meet up with many surveyors and fellow marine insurers who we work with in support of our yacht insurance claims work.
The Conference also provides useful technical briefings and updates to the Surveyor community – this year’s presentations included one on advanced Non Destructive Testing techniques used for the investigation of structural defects in complex yacht structures, and the particular issues associated with carbon composite components such as masts. Forensic material test investigation was also covered – with its topic of bacterial corrosion in stainless steel new to most attendees. More traditional subjects such as rigging checks, and techniques for yacht valuation were also covered.
